6 September 2020
To all of our athletes, event organizers, volunteers, corporate and strategic partners, friends and fans of the senior games,
I sincerely hope you are staying safe and healthy. A great many of you are at least by definition considered to be older Americans. Despite the reality that you are in many cases much healthier than your fellow senior citizens, you are by definition at greater risk. Listen to your children and grandchildren who I am certain like mine are very concerned about you. At some point, the current health crisis will pass, and we will resume our new normal lives.
Regarding our 2020 Rhode Island Senior Games, we have made the very difficult decision to cancel them. We delayed making this decision for as long as possible in hopes of finding a venue and date when we could safely conduct, at a minimum, our signature track & field event. However, with continued state restrictions, we are unable to do that. We understand that this will come as disappointing news to many of our committed athletes but we make this decision with health and safety as a top priority.
The National Senior Games has a plan for those who wish to participate in 2021 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Click here to learn more about those details.
We look forward to when we can bring everyone back together for camaraderie and competition in 2021.
In the meantime, please stay healthy and fit and prepare when and where you can. I look forward to seeing all of you participating in the RI Senior Games in 2021.
